WILL CITY OF BOCA RATON ANNEX POLO CLUB?

With utility service taxes, telecommunications taxes, state revenue sharing, half-cent sales tax income, property taxes and building permit income way down… the City of Boca Raton is seeking income from other sources. Annexation is one way to bring in more money, specifically wealthy neighborhoods adjacent to Boca Raton’s northwest borders, including Polo Club, St. Andews CC and Boca Country Club as well as raising fees for nonresidents who use the beach or city services, such as the library or boat launch. In 2003 and 2004 Boca Raton annexed Town Center mall and several neighborhoods surrounding it, bringing the city more money than it spends on providing services to a bigger area. Boca Raton will either need service cuts or new income, or a combination of the two, to meet budget.
