WILL BOCA RATON HAVE A BOTANICAL GARDEN?
Members of the Botanical Garden Association will be asking City Council to rule on a project, or will ask for a referendum on an upcoming ballot, asking voters to decide. The association will seek 40 acres of property for gardens and a dome-shaped conservatory. The City Manager wrote in a recent letter that the association has the opportunity to lease 25 acres of the de Hoernle Park in the Spanish River Library area for a 20-year period with a provision to lease for an additional 20 years, but the group must have “$10-MM in cash” before a lease can be signed. The Association says that figure is higher than what it would cost to build it. Other issues involve building bike and walking trails.
