20 BOCA RATON SCHOOLS RECEIVE A GRADES

Mayor Steven Abrams said, "In recruiting bio-tech companies, a great selling point is to say all our schools are A-Rated. I regularly visit city schools and regularly observe first-hand how hard our students and teachers work towards this."

20 Boca Raton public schools received A grades, one (Olympic Heights) fell one point short of an A, and none were C,D, or F. The Palm Beach County school district is the only large urban district in Florida to receive this distinction.

Grades are abased mainly on how well students perform on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment test (FCAT).

REASON TO BE PROUD:
PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVES “A” GRADE

Governor Jeb Bush and Education Commissioner John L. Winn have announced that the whole Palm Beach County School District has received an “A”, the only urban county system to receive an A two years in a row.

Governor Bush stated, “Accountability and high standards continue to yield rising student achievement and impressive gains for schools and school districts in our state. Broward and Martin Counties also received an A.

District grades are calculated using the same components as school grades – student performance on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), student learning gains and the learning gains of the lowest 25%.

The number of Florida schools gaining from a “B” to an “A” rating was 515 in 1999 and 2074 in 2006. Three out of four Florida schools were considered high performing in 2006. The number of failing schools is on the decline, down to a fourth of the number of ailing schools in 1999.
